Brooj Abro

MD

Brooj Abro, MD, is an assistant professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, where she also serves as associate program director for the Pathology Residency Program and associate director of the Hematology Laboratory at Emory University Hospital. She is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology.  

Dr. Abro earned her doctor of medicine from the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, and completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency and Hematopathology Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where she also served as Chief Resident. She joined the Emory faculty in 2022 and has been actively engaged in clinical service, education, research, and leadership.  

A passionate advocate for education and mentorship, Dr. Abro is the lead editor and author of The Washington Manual of Hematopathology, mentoring numerous trainees as co-authors. A forthcoming Spanish edition will expand the manual’s global educational reach. She is actively involved in national pathology organizations, including the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), where she serves as an ambassador and member of the ASCP CHECKPATH Hematopathology Committee, and the College of American Pathologists (CAP). She also contributes to education and outreach through the Georgia Association of Pathologists (GAP).  

Beyond her professional work, Dr. Abro is committed to fostering community and wellness. She serves as co-chair of the Pathology Training Programs Wellness Committee and is a member of Emory’s Wellbeing Champions Network. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends, and family, and hosting lively game nights at her home.
