Center for Global Health

ASCP partners with ministries of health, hospitals, universities, non-governmental organizations and industry partners to strengthen laboratory systems, expanding access to diagnostics, developing the workforce, and translating research into practice so patients receive timely, high-quality care.

Advancing Global Health Through Laboratory Medicine

How we Work

We tailor engagement to country context and goals, co-designing practical, scalable solutions that strengthen laboratory systems and improve patient care.

  • Needs assessment & planning — Joint assessments, gap analyses, and costed roadmaps aligned to national priorities and tiered network designs.
  • Technical consultation & SME — Competency-based training and mentorship; verification/validation; EQA and auditor development; digital/telepathology workflows; SOP & job-aid packages.
  • Policy & strategic planning — Co-developing or refining national lab policies, quality frameworks, governance, and multi-year strategies.
  • Grantmaking & coalition-building — Collaborative and inclusive research, implementation research grants for LMIC-based investigators, connecting funders with field teams to scale proven models.
40
Countries

The Center for Global Health has delivered educational and training programs in 40 countries.

10,750
Pathologists & Laboratory Professionals

The Center for Global Health has trained over 10,750 pathologists and laboratory professionals.

293
Colleges & Universities

ASCP has supported nearly 300 colleges and universities across 14 countries to strengthen their medical laboratory science educational curricula and collaborates with universities establishing new pathology residency programs.

10,500
Telepathology Consultations

Through ASCP’s Partners Initiative for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment, over 10,500 patients in 11 countries were able to receive timely diagnoses, and local pathologists gained access to expert secondary consultation from over 200 ASCP pathologist volunteers.

What We Make Possible

ASCP works with collaborators around the world to promote excellence in medical laboratory science and support a resilient laboratory workforce. With members representing the entire laboratory team, including medical laboratory scientists, histotechnologists, cytologists, and anatomic and clinical pathologists, ASCP has access to a vast wealth of subject matter experts who are leaders in their field and eager to volunteer to support our global health programs.

Our three work streams – Patient Access, Workforce Development, and Research – reinforce one another to move patients from suspicion to timely, effective care.
