The ASCP Foundation announces the launch of the Dr. Alvin Ring Empowerment Scholarship for Laboratory Professionals. The scholarship application window is now open through May 31, 2024.
This scholarship provides financial aid to those pursuing higher education in the medical laboratory sciences. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on applicant qualifications and the degree program pursued. Scholarship aid may be used toward direct academic tuition or needs-based expenses to support the student's academic career. Applicants may be able to use scholarship funds toward certification exam fees.
To foster a more inclusive and diverse laboratory workforce, this scholarship seeks to recruit students from underrepresented populations and areas within the United States, seeking to serve underserved communities with their education. Additionally, candidates must be in good academic standing and/or show commitment to staying in the laboratory profession, as demonstrated by their academic or professional reference letter.
This scholarship is supported through generous seed funding from both Alvin Ring, MD, esteemed pathologist, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Laboratory Systems. A wide range of candidates, including high school students looking to enter the laboratory workforce to in-service laboratorians seeking higher specialization in the laboratory workforce, will be considered for this opportunity. ASCP members are encouraged to share scholarship information with individuals in their laboratory system or community who may be interested and eligible to apply.
