Dynamic Building Bridges Webinar Series Returns

February 06, 2024

The second installment of the Building Bridges Across the Laboratory Community webinar series will begin February 28 from 11 a.m.–12 p.m. CST. The series—presented by ASCP, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Laboratory Systems—highlights case studies of laboratory partnerships and alliances that have played a vital role in addressing workforce challenges and/or enhancing public health response efforts.

Each webinar will focus on key aspects relevant to the greater laboratory community, such as the collective impact of these partnerships, lessons learned, and best practices applicable to those seeking to implement similar collaborations or interventions.

This year, each webinar will feature two to three mini case studies on a core topic, with additional integration of case studies demonstrating the important role that public health laboratories play in partnerships. Join us as we examine the dynamic landscape of laboratory collaborations and communities. The Building Bridges series will take place monthly, February through June, on Wednesdays from 11am- 12 pm CST (schedule below).

Each webinar will be recorded and posted to:https://www.ascp.org/SupportCDCOneLab. Furthermore, the live sessions in this year’s series will also be eligible for free CMLE credit (1 CMLE credit/webinar) through the ASCP store.

The topics for this year’s Building Bridges program are as follows:

  • Responding to Emerging Outbreaks: Sharing the Load among Laboratory System Partners (2/28/24):features unique and collaborative approaches tackling a HCV outbreak in New Hampshire and a large-scale oral Rabies vaccination program in Texas.
  • Supporting DE&I Initiatives in the Laboratory Workforce (3/27/24): features laboratory outreach efforts to underserved communities and how laboratory professional societies can help support DE&I initiatives for patients and their members.
  • Partnerships Supporting Laboratory Training and Fellowships (4/24/24): features the Virginia Commonwealth University/VA Public Health Laboratory training program for clinical laboratory partners interested in entering public health; the University of Nebraska Medical Center's MLS program that supports unique educational partnerships to stretch the reach of their MLS training; and the collaborative effort of the CDC's OneLab Initiative and its paired open access learning management system, OneLab REACH, providing cutting-edge training materials for laboratory professionals.
  • Twinning and Sharing Best Practices: Regional Partnerships (5/15/24): features regional consortia of public health laboratories sharing best practices, shared experiences of twinned laboratory partners (representing Missouri, Michigan, and Arkansas public health laboratories), and the presentation of a large-scale regional biosafety training program for both clinical and public health partners conducted by the Northeast Regional Consortia.
  • Partnerships in Service of Effective Data Sharing (6/26/24): features the complex and multidisciplinary collaborations that support effective data sharing for the surveillance of Influenza and the recent salmonella outbreak (applesauce) among children. Effective data sharing in these instances is critical in ensuring timely responsiveness and reporting between clinical and laboratory partners.
