The fourth session of Building Bridges Across the Laboratory Community, ASCP and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will present a case study featuring Dr. Suzanne Dale, PhD, D(ABMM), on how the LabCorp team worked closely with the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration to validate and scale high-throughput testing platforms to respond to the emergence of the mpox during the summer of 2022. Dr. Dale will also share insights from the laboratory data generated from national testing of mpox. This session, titled “Increasing National Access to mpox Testing by Leveraging Reference Lab Capacity,” will be on Friday, July 28, from 11 am-12 pm CDT. Here’s a look at some of the recent webinars ASCP and CDC have hosted:
• The
Building Bridges Across the Laboratory Community series, focused on engaging conversations around synergistic laboratory partnerships in the service of addressing public health emergency responses and workforce challenges, kicked off in April 2023 with a presentation from the
New York State Laboratory Leadership Consortium on how they rallied together to shape both local responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and state licensure laws for laboratory professionals.
• In early June, Dr. Juan Gomez from
Texas State University presented on how his academic 3D printing laboratory engaged in a call to action from the City of Austin to support manufacturing of 3D printed nasal swabs, thereby mitigating supply chain disruptions affecting widespread COVID-19 testing efforts.
• In late June, the series featured Dr. Amy Kirby, the
National Wastewater Surveillance System lead at the CDC, who shared how collaborative laboratory partnership have supported and continue to support nationwide surveillance of wastewater which has been used to identify emerging infectious disease trends on a population and geographic level.
