ASCP is appealing to its members to contact their legislators to ask them to support legislation providing the Medicare physician fee schedule (PFS) with an annual inflationary update. The PFS not only pays for the professional services provided by pathologists, but it also pays for technical services performed by laboratory professionals.
Legislation known as the Strengthening Medicare for Patients and Providers Act would link the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule to the Medicare Economic Index, a measure of inflation specific to physicians' operating costs. This bipartisan measure would provide financial stability to the pathologists, laboratory personnel, and medical laboratories.
ASCP is urging all members to tell Congress to approve the “Strengthening Medicare for Patients and Providers Act.” ASCP is working with the American Medical Association to support this bill. As a result, we recommend that, whether you are a physician or not, you use the AMA’s eAdvocacy platform to
contact your legislators and urge them to help stabilize physician payment rates. Thank you!
