Since 1988, ASCP has conducted its Vacancy Survey to determine the extent and distribution of workforce shortages within the nation’s medical laboratories. This confidential survey has been administered every two years and has served as the primary source of information for academic, government, and industry labor analysts. Results from past surveys show that laboratory medicine is a rapidly evolving field.
Results from the
ASCP 2020 Vacancy Survey have underscored the need to focus on the needs of the laboratory, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. That data has been useful as we look to cultivate the future of the laboratory profession as a whole, as well as individual specialties.
The ASCP 2022 Vacancy Survey will help ascertain the current staffing needs in the laboratory and the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the field. In addition to general staffing questions, the survey asks about hiring, recruitment, and retention challenges participants face in their institutions.
