The American Board of Pathology (ABPath) is pleased to announce that all future primary and subspecialty certification exams will be administered exclusively at commercial testing centers. The ABPath Tampa exam center will no longer be used for exams.
At the start of COVID-19, ABPath decided to temporarily administer exams remotely so that candidates could take exams in a safe environment and avoid travel to Tampa, FL, or Tucson, AZ, during the pandemic. In late 2020, the ABPath decided that all 2021 exams would be administered at Pearson VUE Professional Test Centers for a pilot year. Following successful exam administrations, ABPath conducted surveys of candidates. The survey results indicated the candidates would overwhelmingly prefer to take the exams in commercial testing centers.
After careful consideration, the Trustees of the ABPath have decided to administer all future primary and subspecialty certification exams in commercial testing centers. Using test centers, such as Pearson VUE, will ensure all candidates have an equitable testing environment, while maintaining the security and integrity of high-stakes exams.
