ASCP Launches Virtual Grand Rounds Series

March 02, 2021

A year ago, many medical schools cancelled their Grand Rounds as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. Virtual Pathology Grand Rounds (VPGRs) stepped in to fill this educational gap, offering a series of virtual Grand Rounds from experts from around the country. The brainchild of pathologists Sara Wobker, MD, of UNC Chapel Hill, Kamran Mirza, MD, PhD, FASCP, MLS(ASCP) of Loyola University Health System, Sara Jiang, MD, of Duke University, Raul Gonzalez, MD of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Elham Khanafshar, MD of UCSF, the successful VPGR pilot turned to ASCP initially for CME credit. This series was hugely successful, reaching an international audience overnight.

Building on this effort, the Society recently launched an official partnership with VPGR: The ASCP Virtual Pathology Grand Rounds via Zoom, featuring live panel presentations and Q&A and offering CME/CMLE credits. VPGRs will continue to be launched periodically throughout the year on a monthly/bimonthly basis.

“ASCP has always been innovative in addressing the needs of the pathology and medical laboratory community,” Dr. Mirza said. “Offering this Virtual Grand Rounds series, which is now part of its educational portfolio, speaks volumes about ASCP’s dedication to serving the needs of all of its members.”
