On Aug. 16, the National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) endorsed ASCP’s advocacy efforts urging Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to reverse its cuts to anatomic pathology and clinical laboratory services. In a July 31 letter, ASCP raised concern about Anthem’s recent reimbursement pricing changes that shortchange pathology and laboratory services. Some of the prices outlined by Anthem are significantly lower than the reimbursement rates provided by state Medicaid programs, which reimburse these services at about 70-80 percent of the payment rates provided by the Medicare Physician and Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedules. NSH’s endorsement strengthens ASCP’s efforts to raise concern about Anthem’s price cuts.
ASCP will be submitting formal comments raising concern about CMS’s proposed DOS policies. Individuals interested in commenting on the DOS proposals may do so here until the proposed rule’s Sept. 27 comment deadline.
