Social media is an emerging dominant voice in medicine. Increasing numbers of physicians of all specialties are embracing social media for its potential to reach a broad audience, including our own patients. Mark your calendar and learn how you can navigate this expanding media by attending the education session, “You Cannot Afford to Miss Out! Building a Practice and National Reputation with Social Media,” on Thursday, September 12 at the ASCP 2019 Annual Meeting in Phoenix.

This interactive workshop will be moderated by three social media experts—GI pathologist Christina A. Arnold, MD, gastroenterologist Darrell Gray II, MD, MPH, and surgeon Lawrence Shirley, MD. They will emphasize how to harness social media to accomplish more with less effort, while enhancing one’s professional reputation and expanding awareness of pathology and laboratory medicine.

During this session, attendees will learn how to construct a professional Twitter page and translate social media activity into resume items and a promotion portfolio. They will also learn how to avoid the dark side of social media through protecting patient privacy, developing a professional presence, and applying web-based tools for efficient time management.

Based on their varied specialties and social-media inroads, the moderators will offer practical approaches and tips to getting started. The format features a mix of didactic elements and interactive technique demonstrations.

This session is targeted to all, including laboratory professionals, students, residents, pathologists, clinicians, and administrators. No prior understanding of social media is required. #JoinUs! @CArnold_GI, @drewshirleymd, @DMGrayMD
