HHS Secretary Aims To Overhaul National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program
July 29, 2025
Reuters (7/28, Aboulenein) reports HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “said on Monday that he will work to ‘fix’ the program that compensates victims of vaccine injuries, the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.” Kennedy “accused the program and its so-called ‘Vaccine Court’ of corruption and inefficiency in a post on X.” Kennedy wrote, “I will not allow the VICP to continue to ignore its mandate and fail its mission of quickly and fairly compensating vaccine-injured individuals.” Kennedy added that “he was working with Attorney General Pam Bondi.” The New York Times (7/28, Jewett) reports, “Kennedy noted that the compensation program protects vaccine makers from liability in courts.” Kennedy “said that the compensation fund has paid out $5.4 billion to 12,000 petitioners, but argued that it ‘no longer functions to achieve its Congressional intent.’” Also reporting are Bloomberg Law (7/28, Kim, Subscription Publication) and CNN (7/28, Owermohle).
