Rare Disease Advisor (6/6, Özkaya) reported, “Clostridium perfringens bacteria producing epsilon toxin (ETX) were detected in some patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and multiple sclerosis (MS),” which “suggests that there may be a potential link between the bacterial toxin and the 2 diseases.” But, “the study also found that the anti-ETX antibody levels were not significantly different between patients and healthy controls, the researchers noted.” The findings were published in BMC Neurology.
