Pulmonology Advisor (10/1, Goldberg) reports, “In children developing asthma, levels of the immune mediator interleukin (IL)-10 are lower than normal by the time these children are 6 years of age, according to study findings.” The researchers “found viral detection was associated with downregulation of type 2 and type 17 immune mediators (CCL13, CXCL8) and upregulation of several type 1 and regulatory immune mediators (CXCL10, IL-10, CCL4, IFN-É£, and TNF-α).” The findings were published in Allergy.
