Hospitals Charge Private, Employer-Based Insurers 254% More Than Medicare On Average, Report Finds

NBC News (5/13, Lovelace) says, “A report published Monday from the research group Rand Corp. found that in 2022, the prices hospitals charged to private and employer-based insurance providers were, on average, 254% higher than what Medicare would have paid for the same services.” Additionally, the report “found that hospitals often charged higher prices for prescription drugs administered by a health care worker, compared to prices charged for the same drugs given in a similar setting, such as a physician’s office.”
