ASCP Ambassadors Program

ASCP Ambassadors is a volunteer network of ASCP members dedicated to inspiring the next generation of laboratory and pathology professionals. Through hands-on activities and engaging presentations, Ambassadors help young people understand and appreciate the medical laboratory’s role in patient care. Ambassadors cultivate relationships in their community while inspiring students to pursue a career in the medical laboratory and pathology.

This program brings together laboratory professionals, residents, and pathologists who engage with students at all stages of education—from middle school through medical school. Ambassadors give presentations in classrooms, lead interactive activities, and host meetups to introduce students to laboratory medicine and pathology, share career insights, and foster interest in the field.

Ambassador Activities

ASCP Ambassadors have a variety of activities to choose from, including the following:

  • Classroom presentations: Connect with a teacher or administrator to schedule a presentation for students about careers in the lab. This can be as simple as following the ASCP PowerPoint or as elaborate as setting up lab tests in the classroom.
  • Career Fairs: ASCP can help connect you to career fairs in your area and send you materials to set up a table talk about careers in the lab.
  • Shadowships: Host a student at your lab and take them through your day so they can learn “hands-on” what happens in the lab every day.
  • Host a Meet-up: Host a meet-up at a local restaurant, library, etc. for students to come and ask questions about working in the lab. Enlist your fellow lab team members to attend and help engage with the students.

The ASCP Ambassadors program puts laboratory professionals and pathologists in classrooms to encourage students to pursue a career in laboratory medicine. We also provide free resources to make engaging local students easy. To become more involved in your community, follow these simple steps.

  • Apply online to serve as an ASCP Ambassador through our online Volunteer Application.
  • After your application is approved, you can begin visiting and talking to local students about careers in the medical laboratory and pathology.
