ASCP Urges Congress to Pass Sickle Cell Legislation

December 13, 2022

ASCP, along with 50 other organizations, recently urged Congress to include the Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act (H.R. 6216/S. 3389) in an end-of-year legislative package. The legislation outlines important steps toward addressing the needs of those living with sickle cell disease (SCD). The bill directs the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to create a demonstration program in up to 10 states to improve access to comprehensive, high-quality, outpatient care, including recommended clinical, mental health, ancillary, and support services, for individuals with SCD who are enrolled in Medicaid. ASCP strongly supports this bill as an important step to address the needs of those with SCD. An organized approach to standardizing care for those with SCD is urgently needed, and we hope our collective voice will sway Congressional leadership to focus on this critical area.

ASCP will continue to monitor Congressional activity through the end of the current legislative session and update members as necessary.
