Sickle Cell Disease Care Focus of Recent ASCP Advocacy

September 28, 2021

ASCP banded together with the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and other medical societies to promote the develop of a Medicaid demonstration project to improve sickle cell disease (SCD) care. In a joint letter, ASCP, ASH and other medical societies urged congressional sickle cell disease (SCD) champions to introduce legislation to develop a Medicaid demonstration project to improve access to state-of-the-art, high quality outpatient comprehensive care for individuals living with SCD with a focus on young adults. ASCP joined the SCD Coalition earlier this year and has formed a group of experts and organizations (namely AABB and ASH) to explore the development of a national database that would benefit frequently transfused patients, such as those with SCD. ASCP is excited to participate in such endeavors to advance the quality of care for SCD patients.
