Congress Confirms New OSTP Director

June 10, 2021

Eric Lander, PhD, the new Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 28. He is the first OSTP Director to serve on the President’s Cabinet. Dr. Lander has been serving President Joe Biden as his science advisor and will continue in this role. ASCP wrote Dr. Lander on June 10, to offer its congratulations. ASCP worked closely with the OSTP to develop the Partners in Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Program, and we look forward to working with the OSTP on matters of mutual interest.

Prior to joining the Biden Administration, Dr. Lander was a Professor of Biology and Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School and was the Founding Director of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Dr. Lander also served as a co-chair of the Presidential Council of Advisers on Science and Technology during the Obama Administration.
