ASCP Expertise Supports Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) Guideline Update

June 10, 2021

ASCP, in collaboration with the Association for Pathology Informatics (API) and College of American Pathologists (CAP), worked to update the clinical practice guideline, “Validating Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) for Diagnostic Purposes in Pathology.” Dr. Danny Milner, Jr., MD, ASCP Chief Medical Officer, brought his international digital imaging experience to bear with participation on the update of this WSI imaging guideline.

This updated WSI guideline reviewed and reaffirms most of the original recommendations, with the additional impact of expanding the open comment period audience for intake of vital practice concerns; and transitioning to a more robust and globally adopted evidence evaluation method known as GRADE, (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation), which strengthened the value and nature of the recommendations. The guideline was published this month, and can be accessed here.
