ASCP Condemns Acts of Violence in Nation's Capitol, Supports Peaceful Transition of Power

January 08, 2021

ASCP condemns the acts of deadly violence that took place in our nation’s Capitol this week and disrupted Congress’s confirmation of the Electoral College vote on the Presidential Election. The criminal trespass and acts of desecration within the Capitol building itself strikes at the very core of the values we, as Americans, hold sacred. Make no mistake: this was domestic terrorism.

As a medical organization, ASCP supports the peaceful transition of power to President-Elect Biden on January 20, just as we have supported the peaceful transition of power to prior Administrations.  We look forward to supporting, and working with the Biden Administration as our nation moves forward and continues to combat the novel coronavirus which has ravaged our country, and bring our country back to a place of health and peace.

It is up to us to decide how we move forward. It is up to us to decide how we act. It is up to us to decide how to foster healing through civility, peace and humanity so that we can be honored to share this land together, side-by-side.

Change is coming, and with that change comes hope, opportunity and commitment to renewing our faith in this nation. But as we move forward, we must be willing and dedicated to engaging in difficult conversations. We have to step up and speak up. Our future depends on it.
