ASCP Urges CMS to Consider Specialists when Implementing MIPS Value Pathways

March 31, 2020

ASCP recently co-signed a letter developed by the American Medical Association (AMA) to address concerns with CMS’s implementation of the MIPS Value Pathways (MVPs) – a new construct designed to reduce burden and focus reporting on patient outcomes and care episodes. While we agree that MVPs are a step in the right direction in terms of streamlining program requirements, ASCP is concerned with how non-patient facing specialties, like pathology, will fit into the new schema. Specifically, the Promoting Interoperability category is the proposed cornerstone of the MVPs and pathologists are exempt from this category; additionally, there is little information on how Qualified Clinical Data Registry data will be integrated into the program.
