NSH Releases Histotechnology Workload Study

Publication Date: Mar 3, 2020

On Feb. 21, the National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) released the results of its recent histotechnology workload study. The new report provides the results of a comprehensive study of the histotechnology workforce, examining productivity in key areas, such as grossing, embedding, microtomy and other duties. Since the publication of a 2011 report on productivity and staffing, the practice of histotechnology has significantly evolved, with advancements in technologies, changes in staffing models, etc. The NSH study examines workload, productivity, and individual staffing decisions for a variety of personnel categories that perform histotechnology services. The report also explored productivity of manual versus automated technologies for embedding, staining and other tasks. Those interested in accessing the study can do so via this link.
