Publication Date: Oct 11, 2019

One of the best ways enhance your professional development and stay connected with your colleagues is to be part of a professional association such as ASCP.

Kamran Mirza, MD, PhD, FASCP, loves pathology and the medical laboratory profession because of the intricate detective work involved in making a diagnosis. Yet sometimes Mother Nature throws a curve ball, and it’s difficult to diagnose a case. That’s where ASCP’s education comes in. ASCP develops cutting-edge education to keep pathologists and medical laboratory professionals at the forefront of their professions.

“My colleagues are all members of ASCP, and they really value it,” he says. “ASCP has something for everyone wherever you are at in your career—education, advocacy or networking.”

Kristen Pesavento, MLS(ASCP)CM, agrees that ASCP is the place she turns to for solutions. “Laboratory medicine is undergoing significant change. ASCP gives me the tools to deal with situations that a new laboratory leader might encounter,” she says.

ASCP also analyzes the regulatory landscape and advocates for the needs of pathologists and medical laboratory professionals and their patients. Through ASCP’s ePolicy News email newsletter, members can stay up-to-date on the latest policy updates that affect them. ASCP also examines the needs and concerns of laboratory personnel as it relates to job satisfaction, well-being, and burnout to guide efforts to support work-life effectiveness.

“There is a lot of stress placed on pathologists and medical laboratory professionals to provide accurate and timely results,” says Marisa Saint Martin, MD, FASCP. “I look to ASCP to provide its members with the resources that we need to be resilient to stress and burnout. ASCP really cares about our needs.”

Many pathologists and medical laboratory professionals call ASCP their professional home. By attending live meetings and getting involved in ASCP’s committees and committees, you expand your network of colleagues and build your skills and knowledge.

“ASCP gives you a chance to interact with other laboratory professionals I wouldn’t ordinarily meet. We share knowledge and education, so that we can make an impact on patient care,” says Cory Nash, PA(ASCP)CM.

The time is now to renew your membership and discover the answers you need for your career. Renew or join ASCP today, and check out this video, “You’re All About Answers. So Are We.,” to hear what others are saying about ASCP!
