Choosing Wisely Champions

The Choosing Wisely Champions program recognizes the efforts of dedicated pathologists and laboratory professionals for making informed decisions about lab testing. Choosing Wisely recommendations improve patient care and reduce healthcare costs, and the Choosing Wisely Champions encourage their colleagues to use the right test at the right time for the right cost.

Nominee Qualifications

Choosing Wisely Champions are recognized for:

Advancing Choosing Wisely methodologies in their practice
Contributing to the development of ASCP's recommendations
Educating ASCP members about Choosing Wisely
Conducting measurement of recommendations
Validating research on the importance of recommendations
Demonstrating leadership in local Choosing Wisely initiatives
Serving as a spokesperson for the Society or campaign

Recognition for Champions

Nominees chosen to be recognized as Choosing Wisely Champions receive:

Opportunity to present their work to a national audience
Profiles highlighting their accomplishments in Critical Values and ASCP News
Opportunity to be invited to contribute articles to the Critical Values website discussing the advances made when using Choosing Wisely recommendations

Nominate a Choosing Wisely Champion

ASCP is seeking to recognize successful laboratory-related initiatives by pathologists, laboratory professionals, individual clinicians, and clinical teams for their commitment with an award! The deadline for 2024 Choosing Wisely Champions nomination is May 19, 2024.

How to Nominate a Choosing Wisely Champion

Include a brief description (300 words maximum) of how laboratory medicine Choosing Wisely recommendations have been implemented.
Include specifics (e.g., objective performance improvement data) regarding how those contributions have already advanced the goals of the Choosing Wisely campaign.
Submissions must include relevant supporting data, metrics, articles, and impact reports. Applications not showing specific findings and impact will not be further considered.
