Get Active with ASCP Ambassador Programs

Career Ambassadors and Pathology Ambassadors are a volunteer network of laboratory professional, pathologist, and resident members that promote careers in the medical laboratory in their communities. Through hands-on activities and engaging presentations, Ambassadors help young people understand and appreciate the medical laboratory’s role in patient care, and inspire them to pursue a career in the medical laboratory and pathology while cultivating relationships in their community.

What is Career Ambassadors?

Career Ambassadors is a growing network of laboratory professional, pathologist and resident members who introduce the many careers in laboratory medicine to junior high school and high school students. Career Ambassadors make presentations in schools to students at all levels, from middle school to college. They also attend career fairs to promote the profession and offer shadowships for interested students to learn more about daily life in the lab. Career Ambassadors can work alone or join forces with other members of their lab team to present as a team reflecting the work in the lab.

Ambassador Activities

Career Ambassadors have a variety of activities to choose from, including the following:

  1. Classroom presentations: Connect with a teacher or administrator to schedule a presentation for students about careers in the lab. This can be as simple as following the ASCP PowerPoint or as elaborate as setting up lab tests in the classroom.
  2. Career Fairs: ASCP can help connect you to career fairs in your area and send you materials to set up a table talk about careers in the lab.
  3. Shadowships: Host a student at your lab and take them through your day so they can learn “hands-on” what happens in the lab every day.
  4. Host a Meet-up: Host a meet-up at a local restaurant, library, etc. for students to come and ask questions about working in the lab. Enlist your fellow lab team members to attend and help engage with the students.

Incentives

Career Ambassadors are eligible to receive thank you gifts throughout the year, and the top performing individuals have a chance to receive complimentary access to the ASCP Annual Meeting. In order to be eligible for a gift, you must complete a Report Activity and post in the Facebook group.
