Clinical laboratories are monitored and measured in ways such as test turn-around times, productivity indexes, staff separation rates, and patient satisfaction, to name a few. While all of these markers illustrate key aspects of laboratory performance, the outcome in all of these examples is dependent on a common denominator: laboratory employees.
Employee engagement is a leadership strategy that creates and maintains an environment where employees are motivated and committed to contribute to the mission and goals of an organization. This webcast describes and supports the link between high performance laboratories and engaged employees. Key properties of engaged employees are described and the most common measurement of employee engagement, Gallup’s Q12, is explored. Finally, participants are given key points in developing action plans to increase employee engagement in their laboratories. Special motivational factors for weekend-only and third-shift employees are discussed.
After attending this session, participants will be able to:
· Recognize the benefits in maintaining an engaged workforce.
· Identify properties of an engaged workforce.
· Develop an action plan to improve employee engagement.
Who should attend? Practicing Pathologists, Residents, Laboratory Managers, Bench Supervisors, Any Lab Staff with Direct Reports
