What’s New and Exciting for 2017

  • Summary of new WHO 2017 classification of Head and Neck tumors including salivary gland, oropharynx, larynx, and sinonasal tract.
  • Review on new WHO 2017 laryngeal dysplasia classification
  • Review of the recent AJCC 8th edition changes to staging of oropharyngeal tumors and nodal disease
  • Review of NIFTP (noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features)

General Information:

The sheer volume of pathologic entities that can be encountered in the head and neck – from unique epithelial, mesenchymal, and hematolymphoid neoplasms to nonneoplastic entities – makes this one of the most daunting areas of surgical pathology. Other challenges include the need to integrate clinical, radiographic, immunohistochemical, and even molecular testing, to arrive at the appropriate diagnosis. This comprehensive course will provide the guidance you need to streamline your approach to any given lesion.

A nationally recognized faculty with extensive experience as members of large consultation practices will share their insights about problems that often lead to the need for diagnostic consultation.  You will be carefully guided through:

  • Appropriate integration of clinical, radiographic, immunohistochemical, and molecular data for improved categorization and stratification of head and neck tumors
  • Accurate interpretation of laryngeal biopsies
  • Classification of salivary gland tumors and odontogenic lesions
  • Distinguishing features of various thyroid and parathyroidtumors and tumor-like lesions

The case study format will focus on histologic features that impact patient management and  prognosis. Informal discussion with the faculty is welcome.
