Global Health Groups Warn USAID Cuts Will Harm Millions
March 03, 2025
The Hill (3/2, Weixel) reports the Trump Administration’s decision to cease almost all foreign aid spending from USAID “is poised to” impact global health. These “contract terminations announced Wednesday will end grants for HIV treatments and prevention, tuberculosis, polio, malaria, Ebola and numerous other diseases and conditions. Nutrition assistance programs for infants in developing countries have also been halted, organizations said.” Although the State Department has issued waivers to allow certain “lifesaving” programs, including the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), to continue, “the waivers were unevenly applied, and organizations granted waivers said they still weren’t being paid.”
