Crucial Changes Loom for U.S. Healthcare System in 2017
ASCP President William E. Schreiber, MD, FASCP, outlines the many important changes in the U.S. healthcare system that will be ushered in during 2017. The new year marks important deadlines for two Medicare payment programs with reimbursement impacts in 2018 and 2019. Namely, the revaluation of the Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule (CLFS) and the Quality Payment Program – which is the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) new Medicare payment scheme that rewards or penalizes clinicians reimbursed under the Physician Fee Schedule for the quality of care they provide.
ASCP Partners with Legendary Athlete and Philanthropist Dikembe Mutombo to Improve Patient Care in the Democratic Republic of Congo
ASCP has forged a partnership with legendary NBA Hall of Famer and philanthropist Dikembe Mutombo to provide patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo access to rapid cancer diagnostics and appropriate care and treatment. "Dikembe is well-known for his prowess on the court as a member of the Houston Rockets, but he is also very well known as one of the most philanthropic athletes of all time, who is passionate about improving health care in the Congo," said ASCP Chief Executive Officer E. Blair Holladay, PhD, SCT(ASCP)CM.

ASCP recognizes achievements of its members dedicated to the field of pathology and laboratory medicine by offering a number of awards. Award recipients will be recognized at the ASCP 2017 Annual Meeting, Sept. 6-8, 2017 in Chicago.
