Interactive Video Microscopy Tutorial (VMT) Sessions

Interact directly with your peers and expert faculty as you evaluate challenging cases together, utilizing VMT technology. Pathologists can even bring their own slides for group evaluation. Offered as four 90-minute segments focusing on different subspecialty areas, these wildly popular sessions filled to standing-room only in 2019.

In just 3 days, Pathologists under Continuing Certification (CC) can earn all 20 SAMs CME credits needed to meet your 2-year SAMs requirement for ABPath CC Part II. A total of 24.5 CME credits can be claimed.

Attend an extensive track of sessions designed by Laboratory Professionals for Laboratory Professionals. All sessions are now back-to-back throughout the meeting, so you can attend them all straight through. You’ll gain immediately practical skills from expert faculty from the lab, covering four core areas: hematology/coagulation, blood banking/transfusion medicine, microbiology, and clinical chemistry

Interactive Sessions – "Stump The Laboratory Professionals"

Attendees will have more options for interactive, case-based sessions, including the new "Stump the Laboratory Professionals". Challenging cases will be presented and debated by the audience alongside a panel of experts, offering a fun and highly practical learning setting.

Earn the CMLE Credits You Need

Laboratory Professionals can earn up to 24.5 CMLE credits, and choose from topics covering every topic area needed to meet your three-year CMP requirements.

Austin Convention Center

Located directly across from the headquarters hotel and nestled in the heart of downtown, the Austin Convention Center’s location is a tourist’s dream. A USGBC LEED® Gold EB certified venue running on 100 percent renewable energy from Austin Energy’s Green Choice Program, the Austin convention center is one of the country’s most modern meeting venues, with up-to-date-technology, close by, top-notch hotel accommodations and a location that is easily accessible by plane, train and automobile.

About Austin, Texas

Austin is the state capitol of Texas, with a population approaching one million. Here are some interesting facts and fun places to visit while attending the ASCP 2020 Annual Meeting:

Live music can be enjoyed at more than 250 venues throughout Austin. The city is also home to more than 2,300 recording artists. The longest running music show on television—Austin City Limits—spawned the Austin City Limits Music Festival, which draws 450,000 people.

The Historic 6th Street, South Congress, West 6th Street, Red River Cultural District, Warehouse, 2nd Street, South Austin, East Austin, Central Austin, Rainey Street Historic District, and the Domain and Domain Northside are among the “hot spots” for listening to live music, dining and taking in the nightlife.

Austin is home to more than 300 parks, including 360-acre Zilker Park. The Anne and Roy Butler Hike & Bike Trail follows the edge of Lady Bird Lake for ten miles and historic Barton Springs Pool welcomes swimmers to 68-degree, spring-fed waters year-round.

Built from 1882-88 out of “Sunset Red” granite and measuring 302 feet high, the Texas Capitol is 14 feet taller than the nation’s capital in Washington, D.C. Governing in Texas is a part-time job, with legislators meeting only every other year.

Hotel and Booking Information

There are three Austin hotels serving as ASCP official headquarters for the 2020 Annual Meeting. All are offering substantial special discounts for meeting attendees:

The main headquarters hotel is the Fairmont Austin. Located across the street from the Austin Convention Center, the Fairmont Austin places downtown Austin at your feet. It is recommended that pathologists and laboratory professionals book their stay at this hotel.

Hyatt Place Austin is the secondary hotel for pathologists and laboratory professionals. Offered at a slightly lower rate than the Fairmont, the Hyatt Place Austin is a five-minute walk from the Austin Convention Center.

The official hotel for residents is the Hilton Austin Downtown, also across the street from the Austin Convention Center. It is recommended that residents book their stay at this hotel, as many meetings and functions specific to residents will be hosted at this property.
