Gregory N. Sossaman joined the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, at Ochsner Health System, New Orleans, La., as an anatomic pathologist in 2005. Since then, he has held progressively responsible positions, including Section Head, Vice Chair, and Interim Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In 2010, he was appointed System Chair of the department. Since 2007, Dr. Sossaman has also held an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center, New Orleans. Prior to that, he was on staff at Pathology Consultants, L.L.C., New Orleans, where he practiced general anatomic and clinical pathology.
Active with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) since 2004, Dr. Sossaman served on the ASCP Fellows Council from 2004 to 2010, including a term as Chair from 2009 to 2010. He currently serves as a Member-at-Large on the ASCP Commission on Membership, and as a Member of the ASCP Nominations Committee. He previously was an Ex-officio Member of the ASCP Board of Directors and a member of the AJCP Editor-in-Chief Search Committee.
Dr. Sossaman is certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology and is also certified in cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology. He earned a BA in Biology from the University of New Orleans, New Orleans, and his medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine. He also completed both his residency in pathology and a fellowship in cytopathology from the LSU School of Medicine. Currently, he is Speaker of the House of Delegates with the Louisiana State Medical Society, where he also serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Governors.
