William E. Schreiber is a consultant pathologist at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, and a Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC). He is also the medical director of the Provincial Toxicology Centre, which performs specialized drug testing for the province.
Dr. Schreiber received his BA in chemistry from Oberlin College and his MD from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed a residency and research fellowship at the University of Washington, Seattle. Since joining the faculty at UBC, he has committed a large part of his career to the education of medical students, residents and colleagues. He directed the Medical Biochemistry Residency Program for 10 years and served as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education at UBC from 1999-2002. He has received a number of teaching awards from students and peers, as well as recognition from professional organizations for contributions to continuing medical education.
An ASCP Board Member since 2006, Dr. Schreiber has served on the Council on Clinical Chemistry, the Fellow Council, the CheckPath Clinical Pathology Committee, and the Commission on Continuing Professional Development. He is on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Clinical Pathology and Lab Tests Online, an on-line directory of laboratory tests. He also represents the ASCP on the American Board of Pathology committee dealing with content specifications for its maintenance of certification process.
