Advancement

Nationally, ASCP advocates for its members and professional community, helping interpret the latest regulatory actions and promote beneficial developments. Collaboration

By forging alliances with other medical societies, non-governmental organization such as the World Health Organization and the Clinton Global Initiative, and government agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), ASCP increases the strength, resources, and patient-centric focus of its members. With important medical societies, ASCP cultivates stronger connections for members and expands collective resources needed to be successful.

ASCP Builds Strategic Alliances

Providing improved patient care requires the development of an organized pathology voice. ASCP is invested in building national and international alliances to ensure our profession is at the center of diagnostic medicine.

ASCP has worked collaboratively with other societies to develop education resources to benefit our mutual members. Lab Management University was developed in conjunction with the American Pathology Foundation, and the University of Path Informatics was developed in conjunction with the Association for Path Informatics.

Our Center for Global health has worked extensively with the CDC and Ministries of Health across the globe to bring pathology and laboratory medicine to underserved populations related to HIV and non-communicable diseases.

ASCP's Washington DC staff work collaboratively with many pathology and laboratory medicine societies to ensure the collective voice of pathology is heard.

Global Community

Beyond its borders, ASCP has developed a cadre of medical laboratory professionals and pathologists who conduct workshops and training sessions and provide standards for medical laboratories to achieve accreditation in countries throughout Africa, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. Since 2005, the CDC has given ASCP substantial funding for this work through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

ASCP's Center for Global Health

For ASCP, strengthening our global community involves expanding our global footprint to provide pathologists and laboratory professionals around the world with opportunities for certification, training, and membership aligned specifically with their needs. It also means supporting resource-limited countries with training and education to establish a framework for the practice of quality laboratory medicine.
