    ASCP Receives $434K Grant for MDS Curriculum

    Myelodysplastic Syndromes—known as MDS—is a rare, but potentially deadly cluster of blood and bone marrow disorders that are extremely difficult to diagnose. In about one third of patients with MDS, the disease transforms into acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), usually within months to a few years. Patients who have MDS are frequently misdiagnosed or diagnosed when cancer is already in its late stages. Read more

    Worldwide Facts About Cervical Cancer

    Cervical cancer is the No. 1 women’s cancer in sub-Saharan Africa and is the third most common cancer in women worldwide, with 530,000 new cases and 275,00 deaths annually. Some 80 to 90 percent of women in sub-Saharan Africa have never had a pelvic exam. More than 85 percent of the global burden of cervical cancer occurs in resource-limited countries, yet the World Health Organization estimates less than 5 percent of these women have access to screening even once in a lifetime.
