“The mobile phone goes everywhere with our students and is used as a versatile communication device. I think it's [the ASCP BOC Study Guide app] a terrific idea.”
—Kathleen “Kay” Doyle, PhD, MLS(ASCP)CM
A mobile app is now available so that medical laboratory students can download questions from the fifth edition ASCP BOC Study Guide on their iPhone or Android phones.
“The mobile phone goes everywhere with our students and is used as a versatile communication device,” says Kathleen “Kay” Doyle, PhD, MLS(ASCP)CM, who teaches advanced pathophysiology at the University of Massachusetts, in Lowell, Mass., and served for many years on the ASCP BOC Board of Governors. “I think it’s a terrific idea.”
The new ASCP BOC Study Guide app allows users to access 2,500 study questions through three different “modes”:
A Quiz Mode allows the user to choose between various options, such as a customized topic area, number of questions, time limit, and feedback options. Answers are available after each question or at the end of the quiz.
A Mock Exam Mode is timed and gives the user a score. Answers are not shown until after the user finishes the exam.
The Flashcard Mode has no timer and provides the user with one question at a time, followed by the answer.
Additionally, users can download information by topic area, such as hematology, microbiology, and blood banking, or select multiple topics at once. They can also choose questions appropriate for Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT), or both MLT and Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS), for example.
Individuals who purchase the ASCP BOC Study Guide now will automatically receive the mobile app as part of the package at an introductory price of $99 for nonmembers and $79 for the members through June 30. The cost will increase by $20 as of July 1. To learn more and order,
