Vote for 40 Under 40 Top Five Honorees

Friday, June 20, 2014

Since May, ASCP’s ONELab online community has been buzzing with activity as members converse on everything from laboratory staffing issues and mentoring to preparing for lab inspections and achieving work-life balance.

The catalysts for these discussions include 40 pathologists and laboratory professionals under age 40 who have been selected as finalists in ASCP’s inaugural 40 under 40 Program.

"ASCP is pleased to introduce this new program, which recognizes future leaders of the profession and their remarkable contributions to the field. The field of pathology and laboratory medicine offers professionals almost unlimited opportunities for change and growth, and ASCP is proud to support and encourage the next generation of leaders as they develop in their careers."

“ASCP is pleased to introduce this new program, which recognizes future leaders of the profession and their remarkable contributions to the field,” says ASCP President Steven H. Kroft, MD, FASCP. “The field of pathology and laboratory medicine offers professionals almost unlimited opportunities for change and growth, and ASCP is proud to support and encourage the next generation of leaders as they develop in their careers.”

Each honoree has been given the opportunity to blog on ASCP’s ONELab website, sharing his or her knowledge about subjects relating to pathology and laboratory medicine, as well as personal topics.

“I did not anticipate that it would be that engaging and that much fun, but it has,” says one 40 Under 40 blogger. “Everyone in this group is energetic and has a lot of ideas that we don’t get to share very often. Typically, everyone wants to share successes they’ve implemented in their labs, but they’ve also shared difficulties. If you’ve not experienced those challenges, just hearing how they have overcome them is inspiring.”

ASCP members are encouraged to visit the ONELab site to read the 40 Under 40 blogs and honoree biographies, and then vote for the candidate they think should be named a Top Five recipient within the 40 Under 40. Later this summer, ASCP will select the Top Five 40 Under 40, who will each receive free registration to attend the ASCP 2014 Annual Meeting, along with a $1,000 stipend to toward airfare and lodging.

Several finalists said that blogging has actually created a community and they hope to keep in touch at the conclusion of the program.
