ASCP BOR and NCA Form Single Certification Agency
The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (BOR) and the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) on July 21, 2009, signed an agreement forming a single certification agency for medical laboratory professionals. The agency will be called the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC). The agreement is effective on Friday, October 23, 2009. At that time, the NCA will be dissolved as a corporation. more...

Announcing the 2009-2010 Scholarship Recipients
As part of the continuing effort to combat the laboratory workforce shortage, the ASCP awarded 70 scholarships to the nation's top medical laboratory students as part of the Society's yearly Student Scholarships program. In addition, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, in partnership with ASCP, awarded an additional 110 scholarships.
The total amount of this year's scholarships was $184,000. more...
ASCP Reaches Out to Young Science Students
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ 2000 census, 12,200 new laboratory professionals will be needed annually to meet the critical need across the nation. However, only 4,000 to 6,000 graduates will join the workforce each year. “There is widespread consensus that lack of awareness of the profession has been a major roadblock in recruitment efforts,” said Andrea T.
