The American Society for Clinical Pathology has awarded a total of $20,000 in resident grants during the academic year 2008-2009 to defray the cost of doing elective rotations at outside institutions in fields of pathology in which the resident desires intensive exposure, especially in the form of consult material.
Each ASCP grant will provide a $1000 or $2000 stipend according to the length of study. The time period of study will vary for each resident between two and four weeks.
Ideally, the grant recipient could actively participate in the daily sign-out and consultation service, as well as possibly get involved in a research project. "We feel this would allow residents to broaden their training experience by exposing them to material that is not currently available at their institution and by allowing them to work with a prominent pathologist of their selection in the field chosen," said Jeremy Henderson, MD, Chair of the ASCP Resident Council's Subspecialty Grant Committee.
