Announcing the 2008/2009 Scholarship Recipients
As part of the continuing effort to combat the laboratory workforce shortage, the ASCP recently awarded 53 scholarships (49 $1,000 scholarships and four $500 scholarships) to the nation's top medical laboratory students as part of the Society's yearly Student Scholarships program. In addition, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics in partnership with ASCP, awarded an additional 39 scholarships (34 $2,500 scholarships and five $5,000 scholarships).
The total amount of this year's scholarships was $162,000.
ASCP and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics are pleased to announce the 92 recipients of the 2008/2009 scholarship program. The full list of recipients appears below this article.
The ASCP began the student scholarship program in 1992 to encourage the best and brightest students to pursue careers in the laboratory. The program also aims to relieve some of the financial burden, which can be a roadblock for many talented students. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, professional goals and leadership abilities.
"The ASCP would like to thank Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and the ASCP members who opted to donate to the scholarship fund on their annual ASCP membership renewal forms," said ASCP President Barbara J. McKenna, MD, FASCP. "Your generosity helps make the program such a great success."
The ASCP received several heartwarming 'thank you' letters from this year's recipients. These letters serve as a reminder of the significant effect the Scholarship program and its contributors have on the lives of these future laboratory professionals.
