Awards

The ASCP recognizes excellence through prestigious annual awards given to pathologists and laboratory professionals. Pathologist awards are presented at the ASCP annual meeting.

Master Award
This award serves to recognize those distinguished members who have made significant contributions to the field of pathology and laboratory medicine and to the ASCP. Eligibility is based on years of ASCP membership, significant career accomplishments, and contributions to the Society and to the profession.

Ward Burdick Award for Distinguished Service to Clinical Pathology
Fellow members who have made a significant contribution to pathology through sustained service to the profession and the ASCP are honored with this award. The award was established in 1929 to honor Ward Burdick, MD, one of the original founders of the ASCP.

Philip Levine Award for Outstanding Research
Researchers who made a significant contribution to molecular pathology, immunohematology, and immunopathology are given this award. The award honors the late Philip Levine, MD, who made many distinguished contributions to clinical medicine, including determining the etiology of Rh hemolytic disease of newborns. Levine was director of Ortho Diagnostic Systems, Inc., co-sponsor of the award.

Israel Davidsohn Award for Distinguished Service
Fellow members who have participated significantly in a variety of roles within the ASCP throughout their careers are honored this award.

H.P. Smith Award for Distinguished Pathology Educator
Fellow members who have had distinguished careers in pathology and laboratory medicine embracing education, research and administration, as well as service to organized pathology are honored with this award. The award was initiated in 1974 and honors the former Fellow and ASCP president H.P. Smith, MD.
