Awards

The ASCP recognizes excellence through prestigious annual awards given to pathologists and laboratory professionals. Pathologist awards are presented at the ASCP annual meeting.

ASCP Mastership
The ASCP Mastership designation serves to honor those distinguished ASCP members who have made significant contributions to the field of pathology and laboratory medicine and to the ASCP. Eligibility is based on years of ASCP membership, significant career accomplishments, and contributions to the Society and to the profession.

If you wish to make a nomination for the awards listed below, please submit a nomination form listing the individual you wish to nominate and why you believe the individual deserves recognition. 

Ward Burdick Award for Distinguished Service to Pathology
This award honors Fellow members who have made a significant contribution to pathology through sustained service to the profession and the ASCP. The award was established in 1929 to honor Ward Burdick, MD, FASCP one of the original founders of the ASCP.

Philip Levine Award for Outstanding Research
This award honors ASCP members who have made a significant contribution to molecular pathology, immunohematology, and/or immunopathology. This award was established in 1969 to honor the late Phillip Levine, MD, FASCP, who made many contributions to pathology, including determining the etiology of Rh hemolytic disease of newborns.

Israel Davidsohn Award for Distinguished Service
This award honors Fellow members who have participated significantly in a variety of roles within the ASCP throughout their careers. This award, established in 1989, serves as a tribute to Israel Davidsohn, MD, FASCP whose contributions touched every aspect of ASCP. Dr. Davidsohn served as ASCP President in 1951-52.

H.P. Smith Award for Distinguished Pathology Educator
This award honors ASCP Fellow members who have had distinguished careers in pathology and laboratory medicine embracing education, research and administration, as well as service to organized pathology. The award was initiated in 1974 and honors the former ASCP president, H.P. Smith, MD, FASCP.

2009-2010 Scholarship Recipients
As part of the continuing effort to combat the laboratory workforce shortage, the ASCP awarded 70 scholarships to the nation's top medical laboratory students as part of the Society's yearly Student Scholarships program. In addition, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, in partnership with ASCP, awarded an additional 110 scholarships. The total amount of this year's scholarships was $184,000. more...

Do you know any pathologists or laboratory professionals who have made a significant contribution to their field and to ASCP? Honor them with a nomination for one of ASCP’s prestigious awards or a Mastership.
