ASCP's Global Outreach program seeks members who are fluent in French or Creole to continue ASCP's support of the national laboratory in Haiti in the wake of the January 2010 earthquake. ASCP consultants have worked in Haiti since 2007 through the Society's involvement in the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. In October 2007, ASCP performed a laboratory assessment. In June 2008, ASCP conducted laboratory management and basic lab operations training, and a training "roll out" in March 2009. The roll out is a train-the-trainer program for Haitian laboratory professionals to sustain the program over time.
ASCP has been communicating with partners in Haiti since the earthquake to identify future in-country staffing needs and to ensure that ongoing support services are met. ASCP volunteers will be needed in Haiti to provide these crucial support services. To get involved in ASCP’s Haiti outreach, contact global.outreach@ascp.org. For more information about ASCP's Global Outreach, go to www.ascp.org/outreach. ASCP encourages all members to donate to Haiti relief efforts through the program of their choosing.
