CHICAGO, Sept. 10, 2009 – The agreement to unite the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (BOC) and the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), signed July 21, 2009, affects certified laboratory professionals in different ways.
ASCP has developed a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) to help individuals navigate the transition to the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC).The FAQs include the following:
- “What if I have already applied or my students have applied to take the NCA exam?”
- “How will my NCA/BOC credentials change and are the two equivalent to one another?”
- “Will my credentials still be valid?”
Answers to these and other questions can be found by clicking here. Those individuals previously certified by the NCA can activate their online ASCP account here.
“The main goal is to provide guidance to members and the public about what the unification means for the individual and the profession,” said E. Blair Holladay, PhD, SCT(ASCP)CM, ASCP BOC Executive Director. “The unity within the profession will go a long way to providing streamlined communication and certification processes. It will also give us the credibility and strength we need when advocating for the profession in Washington.”
The ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) will become effective on Oct. 23, 2009 at which time the NCA as a corporation will be dissolved.
