Biomedical Laboratory Science World Congress in New Delhi is stage for ASCP’s international programming
CHICAGO, August 22, 2008—The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) will continue to spread its global messages about the importance of laboratory science and pathology at the 28th World Congress of Biomedical Laboratory Science in New Delhi, India. ASCP, a partner of this event, will be on hand to discuss the organization’s unique international certification process.
The meeting will be held Aug. 24–28, 2008.
ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) staff will, for the first time, meet face-to-face with the ASCP India Advisory Board and detail plans for moving forward with international certification for Indian graduates and current laboratory professionals. BOC staff will also meet with Leila Florento, PhD, president of PAMET (Philippines), Tsu-Lan Wu, president of TSLM (Taiwan), and representatives of other professional organizations, laboratories, and educational institutions to discuss global trends in the medical laboratory and the need for international certification. Vincent Gallicchio, PhD, MT(ASCP), president of the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) and an ASCP Globalization Committee member, will make a presentation about ASCPi certification at a panel discussion among invited speakers from Japan, Kenya, Norway, Canada, and Sweden.
For 80 years, ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) certification has been the gold standard of laboratory scientists dedicated to quality patient care and continued education.
Also, the ASCP Institute – the organization’s arm responsible for exploring, identifying and implementing methods to improve laboratory practices around the world – will be present to discuss strategy for the next International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences (IFBLS) World Congress meeting in Kenya. In response to learning that the next meeting will be hosted by the Association of Kenya Medical Laboratory Officers (AKMLSO) in 2010, CDC-Kenya requested that the ASCP Institute meet with key leadership and officials from AKMLSO at this year’s meeting to begin planning and coordination and discuss logistics, opportunities and challenges.
The purpose of this bi-annual international meeting serves as a venue for laboratory scientists and medical technologists of the world to come together to develop and enhance the profession as well as share scientific knowledge on identifying disease and how to overcome it.
