ASCP Magazine Critical Values Earns National Award

The American Society for Clinical Pathology’s (ASCP) membership magazine, Critical Values, has received a Silver EXCEL Award for Most Improved, Newsletter-to-Magazine Format, from the Society of National Association Publications (SNAP). The SNAP EXCEL Awards recognize the best and brightest in association and media publishing. One-hundred-eighty-one winners representing 108 associations were selected from nearly 1,000 entries in various categories. Winners were chosen for taking bold chances in editorial, design, advertising and marketing, online publishing and electronic newsletters.

The award recipients will be honored and celebrated at the 29th EXCEL Awards Gala in Washington, DC, on June 4, 2009. Ellen Sullivan, editor of Critical Values, and Martin Tyminski, art director and designer, will accept the award for ASCP. Award-winning entries are displayed at the EXCEL Awards Gala and are featured in the July/August 2009 issue of Association Publishing. The Awards Gala is part of the Association Media and Publishing Conference, June 3-4, 2009.

Critical Values debuted in January 2008. It replaced two ASCP newsletters, Medical Technology Today, which was sent to laboratory professional members, and Pathology Today, which was sent to pathologist members. Critical Values is distributed both to pathologist and laboratory professional members, reflecting ASCP’s unique status as an inclusive organization representing the entire laboratory team.

SNAP is a non-profit, professional society serving the needs of association publishers and communications professionals.
