The Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process adopted by the American Board of Pathology encompasses a set of requirements that must be fulfilled every ten years following certification. This process, which affects diplomates who passed certification exams beginning in 2006, stresses lifelong learning and ongoing improvement. As of January 1, 2006, all primary and subspecialty certificates issued by the American Board of Pathology (ABP) are considered “time limited”, and expire on the last date of the ten-year anniversary of their issuance.
While total requirements must be fulfilled within ten years, there are specific deadlines at two-year intervals that must be met prior to your actual recertification date. ASCP can help you track progress toward meeting your MOC requirements. Simply access your personal online transcript to review or record your CME and SAM activities. You can print or download a cumulative report, and/or have ASCP transmit your information directly to the ABP at the appropriate time.
Realizing the challenges this presents to the busy practicing pathologist, ASCP is committed to providing you with resources that can help meet these new requirements. Currently, ASCP offers a variety of activities designed to help you meet Part II (PDF) and Part IV (PDF) MOC requirements.
