International Technologist Certification

International Medical Technologist, MT(ASCPi)

Application Fee: $200

To be eligible for this examination category, an applicant must satisfy the requirements of at least one of the following routes:

Route 1: Complete the minimum of a four year degree or diploma from an accredited/approved educational institution and complete a medical laboratory program; or

Route 2: Complete the minimum of a four year degree or diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or any biological or chemical science from an accredited/approved educational institution and complete two years full-time experience including all aspects of the clinical laboratory in an accredited/approved laboratory facility. To fulfill the clinical laboratory experience requirement for the Medical Technologist examination, you must have experience in the following areas: Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Clinical Microscopy/Urinalysis. Please note, Immunology may be included with one of the categories previously mentioned; or

Route 3: Complete a two or three year degree or diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or any biological or chemical science from an accredited/approved educational institution and complete the minimum of a four year degree or diploma in any field from an accredited/approved educational institution and complete three years full-time experience including all aspects of the clinical laboratory in an accredited/approved laboratory facility. To fulfill the clinical laboratory experience requirement for the Medical Technologist examination, you must have experience in the following areas: Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Clinical Microscopy/Urinalysis. International Molecular Pathology Technologist, MP(ASCPi)

Application Fee: $200

To be eligible for this examination category, an applicant must satisfy the requirements of at least one of the following routes:

Route 1: Complete the minimum of a four year degree or diploma from an accredited/approved educational institution and complete a Medical Laboratory program; or

Route 2: Complete a two or three year degree or diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or any biological or chemical science from an accredited/approved educational institution and complete the minimum of a four year degree or diploma from an accredited/approved educational institution and complete one year of full-time experience in molecular diagnostics in an accredited/approved laboratory facility; or

Route 3: Graduate level degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in Medical Laboratory Science or any biological or chemical science from an accredited/approved educational institution and six months clinical laboratory experience in molecular diagnostics in an accredited/approved laboratory facility.

*Accredited/approved by a governing regulatory association or Ministry for your country. Countries without a prevalent system of accreditation/approval must have programs/educational institutions approved by an International Committee appointed by ASCP.

**Accredited by JCI, CAP, ISO 9000 or a governing regulatory association or Ministry for your country. Countries without a prevalent system of accreditation must have laboratories approved by an International Committee appointed by ASCP.
