How do I become ASCP Board of Certification certified? |

How do I apply for certification? |
 |
You must complete the appropriate application form and submit the appropriate application fee. Please visit ASCP BOC web site to locate application forms and information regarding application fees. |

If I submit an application and application fee and I am not found eligible for certification examination, do I get my application fee returned to me? |
 |
Application fees are non-refundable. Be sure you meet the eligibility requirements as stated and are able to provide the appropriate documentation before submitting your application form and fee. |

How do I know what documentation is required to be found eligible for certification examination? |
 |
Official transcripts or foreign evaluations (if applicable) are required for all certification examinations with the exception of the Phlebotomy certification. When work experience is required it will be necessary to complete the appropriate reference form and submit along with a Letter of Authenticity. This information is located on the ASCP BOC web site. |

What are acceptable evaluation agencies for foreign transcripts? |
 |
Acceptable foreign evaluation agencies can be found on the ASCP web site. A foreign transcript evaluation with subject breakdown is required. |

I have a disability what do I do? |
 |
Notify the ASCP Board of Certification office in writing at the time of application if you wish to request testing modifications and provide appropriate documentation about the disability and the needed modification. Please read page 3 in the Procedures for Examination & Certification (PDF) |

Once I submit my application and application fee how long before the ASCP Board of Certification recognized receipt of the application and application fee? |
 |
Your application and application fee will be acknowledged within 6 weeks of date mailed. If you apply online, your application and fee will be acknowledged by email.

How do I know if my college/university is regionally accredited? |
 |
Regionally accredited colleges or universities are accredited by one of the following associations:
- Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA)
- Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
- North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA-HLC)
- New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC-CIHE)
- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/Commission on Colleges (SACS/CC)
- Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC-ACCJR)

When do I receive an Admission Letter for scheduling an examination appointment? |
 |
If you are determined eligible for examination, you will receive an admission letter with instructions for scheduling an appointment to take the examination within the three-month period following the date of this letter. |

What if I am not eligible? |
 |
If you are not determined eligible for examination, you will receive a written notification. Your application will remain on file for three years. |
 |
Where do I take my certification examination? |
 |
All ASCP Board of Certification certification examinations are delivered through Pearson Professional Centers. |
 |
Once I receive my Admission Letter how soon should I schedule an appointment? |
 |
It is strongly recommended that you contact Pearson registration as early as possible to make your appointment within the three-month examination period. You must take the examination within the three-month examination period indicated on your admission letter. |

How do I reschedule my testing appointment? |
 |
If you wish to reschedule your testing appointment, within the three month period, you must contact Pearson Registration at least one full business day (24 hours) prior to the date and time of the test to reschedule another date within the same three-month period. |
 |
What if I want to cancel my examination? |
 |
You will not receive any refund of your application fee nor can it be transferred to another examination period if you do not make an appointment within the three-month examination period, if you cancel your application OR if you do not appear for your scheduled appointment. A full application fee will be required to reschedule the examination. |
 |
How do I reapply for examination? |
 |
If you cancel, do not appear, miss your scheduled appointment date or are determined ineligible, you must submit a full application fee to reapply for examination. You may not reapply to test within the same three month period. |
 |
How long is my application and documentation valid? |
 |
Your application in a particular category will remain valid for a period of three years from the date of submission. |
 |
When I appear at the Test Center for certification examination what identification do I need? |
 |
You must present a drivers license with photo and signature or state identification card with photo and signature, a second personal ID containing your signature and your admission letter to the proctor. |
 |
What if my identification does not match my admission letter? |
 |
If you appear without a driver’s license with photo or state ID with photo OR the first and last names do not match you will not be permitted to take the examination and you will be required to reapply with a full examination fee for another examination period. |
 |
Can I make a name and/or address change at the test center? |
 |
Name and/or address changes may not be made at the test center. |
 |
What if I change my name and/or address? |
 |
If you change your address, notify the ASCP Board of Certification by email to boc@ascp.org; fax 312-541-4845 or mail to ASCP Board of Certification 33 W. Monroe Street, Suite 1600 Chicago, IL 60603. All changes must be made directly with the Board of Certification. |

Can I use other mail service to send an application/fee/credit card with documentation? |
 |
DO NOT send applications, fees or credit card information or documentation by Federal Express, Express Mail, Certified, Registered, or any overnight courier service. |

What is available to study for the examination? |
 |
Content Guidelines, Reading Lists and online practice tests are available on the ASCP BOC web site. |
 |
Will I receive my test results at the test center? |
 |
Your preliminary test results (pass/fail) will appear on the computer screen. Examination scores will be mailed within ten business days after the examination administration provided all official transcripts have been received. |

Can I receive my examination score over the telephone? |
 |
Examination results cannot be released by telephone, fax, or email to anyone. |
 |
Can I reapply for examination before I receive my examination scores by mail? |
 |
You may not submit an application fee to retake the examination until you receive your examination scores by mail. |
 |
Can I retest within the same three month examination period? |
 |
You may not reapply to retest within the same three month examination period. |
 |
How many times can I take the examination? |
 |
You are permitted to take the examination in any one particular category a total of five times under one route. If you are unsuccessful after five attempts, you are ineligible for further examination in that category under the same route. |
