Certificants with a certification and a qualification may now synchronize the completion of their renewal process if they choose to do so. Here are the detailed steps to follow.
Steps to synchronize certification and qualification*:
A completed declaration or revalidation form may be submitted at an earlier date within the appropriate cycle to coincide with another certification/qualification cycle as long as the cycle for any one category is not exceeded.
*Please Note:
Qualifications awarded/revalidated prior to 1/01/2012 are valid for a five year period.
Qualifications awarded/revalidated after 1/01/2012 are valid for a three year period.
For example, certification and qualification expiration dates are shown below:
Histotechnologist (HTL) – Expiration October 2013
Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC) – Expiration March 2014
Step 1: Choose the earliest expiration date. This will be the date you will use in the future. Why the earliest date? You must complete all points within the valid cycle period. If you chose March 2014 as the end date, your HTL certification would expire before then.
Step 2: Contact the BOC office in writing at julie.mueller@ascp.org and explain your intent. Include your full name, customer ID number and, certification and qualification categories.
Step 3: After confirmation from the BOC office, complete the required points for both the certification and qualification categories before the selected end date, in this case October 2013. (Remember you may use some of the same CE points to meet both the CMP and Qualification revalidation requirements.)
Step 4: Submit the Declaration Form for the certification and the Revalidation Form for the qualification before October 2013. (Submit $75 for the CMP application and $15 for the qualification revalidation application, a savings of $35.)
Step 5: When your application forms have been reviewed and approved, both your HTL certification and QIHC Qualification will now expire in October 2016.
