ASCPi Certification & Qualification: Our Global Response to a Changing World

International Credentials through ASCPi help you stay focused on work and education priorities no matter where you’re located.

ASCP offers its gold standard credentials in the form of international certification to eligible individuals worldwide. The ASCPi credential certifies professional competency among new and practicing laboratory personnel in an effort to contribute globally to the highest standards of patient safety. Graduates of medical laboratory science programs outside the United States are challenged with content that mirrors the standards of excellence established by ASCP exams. The ASCPi credential carries the weight of eighty years of expertise in clinical laboratory professional certification.

Qualification

You will receive recognition for your expertise through the International ASCP Qualification in Laboratory Operations. The exam will test your fundamental knowledge in Chemistry, CD4, Haematology and Laboratory Operations. You earn a credential that demonstrates your knowledge in these important areas of medical laboratory science and your commitment to promoting public health and patient safety in your country.

    Gather your education and experience documentation.

    You’ll need to provide documentation of your training and specified experience requirements that you've fulfilled in your area of specialization. Before you apply for the qualification, you should assemble all the documentation needed to:

    Apply for Qualification.

    Complete and submit the application form, along with all the documentation you gathered in the Documentation Step.

    You may apply online or by completing the PDF application to the BOC (mailing instructions are in the application):

      Schedule your examination.

      QLO: Once your application and eligibility documentation has been approved by BOC, you’ll receive an admission letter containing an authorization number to the examination. The examination consists of a 50-question multiple choice timed test that must be completed within a 90-minute time period. The test is self-administered on your own computer at the date and time of your choice within the 60 day time period indicated on your admission letter.         Study for Qualification.

          Watch for your results and certificate.

          QLO: You’ll receive your examination scores along with your certificate within ten business days of your examination date.

          Use of Qualification.

          This Qualification will not, in itself, entitle the individual to membership in ASCP. Individuals must be ASCP certified as a technician, technologist or specialist to be eligible for ASCP membership. Individuals who have been qualified may indicate this qualification through the use of initials in the following manner:

          • Mary Smith, QLO (for individuals qualified in laboratory operations)
